About Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide fairer finance in the form of a safe and easy way to save and access to affordable credit. We are a not-for-profit financial co-operative which means we’re not owned by external shareholders, but by our members and exist solely to serve their needs. It also means that any operating surplus we make is returned to members through a range of convenient services and attractive rates .

Our History

Transave was founded in 1996 by worker directors of Mainline Group, a bus transport operator based in South Yorkshire.

Our ‘common bond’ which governs who is eligible to join the credit union, was initially limited to the employees of companies in the bus passenger transport sector. However legislative changes in 2012 allowed this to be extended to a much wider range of employers and industry sectors.

Transave is now one of the largest credit unions in the UK with over 21,000 members saving in excess of £50 million.
